Tubing the Yampa River Ends………….or not?
One of the best ways to spend a summer day in Steamboat is to float down the leasurely currents of the Yampa River. You can’t get in too soon in the spring because of the freezing cold torrential currents of the winter thaw, and you can’t get in too late in the summer or you’ll bump your bumper the entire way past the James Brown Soul of the Universe Bridge.
This year, tubing lasted a bit more than a month. Once the water level gets to 85 cfs, it is too low to tube and the commercial tubers have to close up shop. We had a reprieve on Thursday with a storm that raised water levels 25%, but the levels are dropping again.
So slather up with sunscreen and enjoy the last few days of tubing. It doesn’t get any better in July.
