Summertime in Steamboat

It’s possible that summers in Steamboat Springs are even busier than winters. There is so much to do you’ll never fit all the activities in. This weekend was the Balloon Rodeo, Art in the Park, Strings in the Mountain, tubing the Yampa, tennis, swimming, camping, fly fishing, hiking, golfing, going to the rodeo and sitting around the fire pit toasting smores.
There is a saying that people come to Steamboat for the winters and stay for the summers. It’s true. Summertime in Steamboat is gorgeous and it is the only time of year you can visit most of the public land in and around Routt County.
Half of the land in Colorado is government owned. We have huge National Forests and Wilderness areas that can only be accessed without snowmobiles in the summer and early fall. That’s the three month period between the last snow melt and first snow fall. The Routt National Forest and Zirkel Wilderness areas are incredibly beautiful and worth a day hike or camping trip or two. Buffalo Pass and Rabbit Ears are close by and have spectacular scenery and wildflowers.
If you haven’t had a chance to make it to Steamboat, come during the summer and enjoy all the fun.
