Steamboat Springs To Add New High-Speed 6-Pack Lift, Regrade Base Slopes

The Steamboat Today reported plans to add the new Christie Peak Express six-passenger lift at the base area. The Steamboat ski area, recently purchased by Intrawest, also announced major re-grading of the beginner slopes by the gondola. In other words, Steamboat’s lower green trails will be a lot easier when the mountain opens in November. Those just learning to ski or parents skiing with beginning children will really appreciate the changes. Not only can you skip the old, slow, cold Christie III lift, but getting back down to the base will be safer from not having to dodge the out-of-control new skiers coming down Headwall.

At least three chairlifts will be changed or removed. The Preview chairlift (the one that goes to the easiest trail and the one used for tubing) will be removed and the Southface triple chair will move to the Preview location. The older Christie lift (it is beside the other Christie lift and only used a handful of days a year) will also be removed.
