Solar Panels are HOT!
Solar Panels are HOT
With 300 days of sunshine, using solar panels to reduce energy consumption in Steamboat Springs is a bright idea.
The technology of solar power continues to improve and the costs involved continue to go down as more manufacturers enter the market.
Old-style models are made from silicon, which is in short supply and therefore expensive. They also didn’t last long enough. New technologies like “thin film”solar equipment uses very little silicon and can be applied to surfaces like roofs and windows. Solar panels placed flush against the roof aren’t as noticeable as older panels.
If you are building in an area where the electric line is still miles away, the price of solar panels can be comparable to having Yampa Valley Electric come in and install a power line. Once the installation crews leave, you still need to pay the electric company. The energy generated from the sun is free.
Home builders can even get tax credits for using renewable energy, but they are set to expire in 2008. So buy them quickly or wait for the tax credits to be renewed.
After all, the best way to go green is to leave more “green” in your wallet.
