LEED Certification for Commercial Developments
LEED certification is something Steamboat Springs commercial contractors can incorporate into their design to make their project environmentally friendly. Getting LEED certification allows developers take advantage of state and local government incentives (saving money), and can help boost press interest in a project (making projects appear “good for the community”.)
The LEED rating system offers four levels for new construction:
- Certified,
- Silver,
- Gold
- Platinum
The Certifications correspond to the number of “points” a project gets for 5 green design categories:
- sustainable sites
- water efficiency
- energy and atmosphere
- materials and resources
- indoor environmental quality
LEED standards cover new commercial construction and major renovation projects, interiors projects and existing building operations.
Certification for residential projects is currently being developed.
