Buildings to be Demolished for New Ski Village: Tugboat, Fuzziwigs, Dos Amigos, Theater building
Every day going into work, I pass the flag men in Ski Time Square. There is a temporary roadway directing traffic over the brick sidewalk, and what used to be the road is now a big hole where they are adding new underground utilities.
Compared to what else is going to happen to Ski Time Square, those changes are minor.
When all the work is completed, Ski Time Square Drive will be re-routed and a new village will be where the 40 year-old brown buildings now stand. Even the ugly round buildings, Steamboat’s ultimate eyesore, will be gone. And who knows what high-end project will be built where Thunderhead Lodge now sits.
The official slogan is “Steamboat Unbridled”. The developers paid $53.9 million for a big chunk of Ski Time Square which they will tear down and refashion into a new ski village. Steamboat was put together like a bad house addition–it was added to here and there without any thought to the overall picture. Now the developers are going at the old buildings with sledgehammers, and when they rebuild there will be a real plan that ties the whole area together.
